GPhC appoints interim chief executive

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has appointed Chris Askew OBE as interim chief executive and registrar from October 1.

Mr Askew has been chief executive of the Royal College of General Practitioners since 2023 and previously led Diabetes UK and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

His career began in international shipping before moving into the charity sector, where he held senior roles at organisations including JDRF, Crisis and Action for Children. He is also a trustee of Action for A-T and Education for All Morocco, and a director at All About Obesity.

Mr Askew commented: “I am greatly looking forward to supporting the GPhC to achieve its strategic aims at this crucial time of transition. Through my previous roles at the RCGP and in health charities, I have seen first-hand the vital role that pharmacy plays in improving people’s health.”
